The Basics of MySpace

Although the site may be relatively new compared to other Internet mainstays, MySpace has quickly become one of the world’s most popular Internet sites. This online community is growing every day, and more people are using MySpace to communicate with their friends or to make new friends. Let’s take a look at some of the basics of MySpace.

 

One of the greatest basics of MySpace is that most anyone over the age of fourteen can be on it. Part of this is because MySpace is not organized around a specific kind of interest like other online communities. Members on MySpace can have different interests, they can work in different occupations and can different from others in terms of age, race, religion and political orientation. This is one of the basics of MySpace that shows how powerful the site is. No matter what the person is there are many different ways how people can communicate with one another regardless of what they are interested in or who they are.

Another of the basics of MySpace is that there are many lurkers on the site everyday. A lurker is a person who is not registered to an online community but likes to look at peoples’ pages out of interest. This helps to make the community of MySpace even larger. Most lurkers are well to do people who are interested in reading things that interest them from people who like them. For example, lurkers may be interested in reading a MySpace page of a sports agent, an overseas military member or a talented artist.

Of course, while there are many lurkers on the site there is another part of them that can make it one of the more dangerous basics of MySpace too. This involves the fact that some may be predators who are looking to get as much information on people as possible in order to try and steal their identities. It is important that when you post information on yourself it never hurts to be truthful, but don’t give out more than you have to. Telling people the city name you are in is fine, but not the specific street address you live at.

The third of the basics of MySpace involves why people join the site at high rates. There are several different basics of MySpace that people join the network to use. Some like to talk with their relatives and friends, and some use it to promote their businesses as long as they have approval from MySpace to do that.

One of the other basics of MySpace involves why people don’t use it. Some people don’t sign up with MySpace because they don’t have the time to do it. Others don’t because they find some of the parts of MySpace to be offensive to them, including questionable materials and sites within the MySpace network. Also, content that is permitted on MySpace may offend them.

These are just some of the basics of MySpace to see. Be sure to consider these basics of MySpace before starting an account with the site.
